Committee Topic: The Malaysian Political Crisis, 2021
Malaysia is currently amid a political crisis. The Members of Parliament constantly alternating party support has led to the loss of parliamentary majority as well as the collapse of two successive coalition governments. The rampant COVID-19 spread and haunting economic problems need to be put a stop to right now. However, there is no government yet to do so. You, as a member of a political party in one of two rival coalitions, want to rise to the top. The urgency of establishing a new government has loosened up the traditional “rules” of politics; collaboration (along old or new lines), backstabbing, and cold-cut strategy are all on the table. Will you be able to see through the other politicians’ plans and resist being outmanoeuvred? And what tactics will you use to impress the king enough to be elected Prime Minister?
