Committee Topic: Security concerns over using crypto blockchains for decentralized transactions

One of the six principal organs of the United Nations, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), is arguably one of the busiest committees in the organisation. The responsibilities the committee has are manifold, including overseeing five specialised UN agencies and five regional commissions. It further coordinates the work of 14 UN specialised agencies, and ten functional commissions, receives reports from nine UN funds and programmes, and issues policy recommendations to the UN system and to member states. Officially, the United Nations describes ECOSOC as “identifying emerging challenges, promoting innovation, and achieving  balanced integration of the three pillars of sustainable development - economic, social and environmental.” It is also tasked with following up on, and giving special attention to major UN conferences and summits.
