UN Women
Committee Topic: Tackling Increased Rates of Violence Against Women During COVID-19
UN Women, also known as the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, is an Entity dedicated to advocating for the rights of women, established in the 2010 General Assembly meeting. Throughout the world, gender inequality is pervasive, not just through obvious discrimination in LEDCs where access to education and healthcare is denied, but in more developed countries as well, where women suffer from wage gaps, period poverty, and secual assault. UN Women works with governments and intergovernmental bodies to promote the equality and representation of women, as well as helping states implement and regulate their gender equality standards. Furthermore, UN Women holds the United Nations accountable for its “own commitments on gender equality”.
